Sunderland University PGCEi
The International PGCE at the University of Sunderland is a world-leading and internationally recognised teaching qualification. This program blends applied teaching theory and practice in three taught modules and one extended teaching practice module. The program has been developed so that it can be delivered to primary, secondary and post-16 teachers and to any subject specialism. It is a 36 week full-time course, completed in one academic year. The PGCE at Sunderland also has the advantage of offering QTS through an Assessment only Route.
Content
The programme is split into two semesters and has four core modules. There is one taught module, two research modules, and one teaching practice module.
The teaching practice is work-based and conducted entirely in a school or other educational institution that you have secured a placement at or currently working at. This is supported by a mentor and university staff.
Cost
The price of the course is £6,500. It is the most expensive because they pay someone from your school to monitor you during the practicum. Nottingham does not have a practicum part, which means that it is not recognised in places such as Hong Kong and Singapore. QTS
Qualified Teacher Status in England and Wales is conferred by the National College for Teaching and Leadership on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education (England) and the Minister for Education and Skills (Wales) not by universities. This PGCEi does not therefore offer a licence to teach in the UK or elsewhere.

Michael had been a teaching assistant in Colombia at an IB school when he decided that he wanted to do further education. His current school was unwilling to encourage his transition from teaching assistant to teacher so he moved to China and started the PGCEi at Sunderland.
